SJR Brass Ensemble is instrumental group  that enriches our liturgies (and other special events) one Sunday a month (usually 1st Sunday of each month). They perform with Adult Choir and Organ at 11:00 Mass and with Cantor and Organ at the Noon Mass. They are a wonderful part of our music ministry here at SJR and we are glad, blessed and proud to have them here.

There will be an announcement on Music Ministry section of the website and in the Bulletin as well when Brass is joining us. Stay tuned! :)

SJR Brass Ensemble

Adult Choir

The Adult Choir rehearses September thru May. We welcome new members to join us as we begin this new season.  A season that will bring some exciting new changes to our liturgies.

The 11:00 Mass has an adult choir who sing traditional and contemporary liturgical music in four parts. They rehearse every Wed. evening at 7:30 PM in church from Labor Day to June. New members are always welcome. Consider joining for the season of Lent or Advent and Christmas.  It is a fun and interesting group. They enjoy the challenge of new music in many styles and genres. Amy Voll directs the adult choir.

This choir leads the singing each week at the 11:00 Mass.  They also lead the music on Christmas Eve at the Midnight Mass at 10:00 PM.  The Christmas Eve Mass also includes a prelude of approximately 30 minutes. The choir prepares a wonderful program of traditional Carols and choral pieces.

During Holy Week this choir leads the music at all of the Triduum celebrations,  Holy Thursday, Good Friday, and at the Easter Vigil.  They return on Easter Morning for the 11:00 Mass.

Children's Choir

The Children’s Choir is for  2nd—8th graders. They sing about once a month at different Masses, Christmas Eve, and for other special Masses and celebrations such as First Reconciliation. We rehearse every Wednesday  evening from 5:30—6:15 PM in the Music Room of the Ministry Building.

Contemporary Choir

This group leads music at the 9:00 AM Mass on Sunday mornings from Labor Day until Father's Day.

We are an Adult Praise and Worship group with guitars, drums (some Conga!) and flutes.

Our singers enjoy learning and leading music in the Praise and Worship style.

Rehearsals are 7 PM on Tuesday evenings from late August through mid-June in the Music Room.

Handbell Choir

We have an exciting multi-generational Handbell Choir!

Our Handbell Choir rehearses every Wednesday  evening from 6:30-7:15 PM in the Music Room.

We welcome any adults and teens that would like to join us and play our beautiful new handbells. We will play once a month and on Christmas Eve and Ash Wednesday.

We have a need for new members.  We hope you can join us.

Resurrection Choir

Resurrection Choir provides music for all the Funeral Services/Masses at SJR. It is comprised of members from all of our choirs and other parishioners who wish to participate.

Reverent Sound

"Reverent Sound" is the name for our Teen Praise Music Group. We are very excited to have a Teen Praise group at the 5:00 PM Saturday Masses. They sing a great mix of Contemporary songs accompanied by piano, guitars, drums, clarinet, and other instruments. All middle school and high school singers and instrumentalists are welcome to join us. Bring your voice or your instrument. We rehearse at 4:00 PM in the Music Room on Saturday and lead the music at 5:00 PM Mass.

Become a Cantor

The Cantor Ministry at St. John of Rochester is comprised of women and men including high school and college students. The cantors lead sung prayer at all Masses. Training is available through the parish and at Diocesan sponsored workshops.

Parishioners are always welcome to participate in this joyful ministry.

Music Ministries and Concerts

Music Ministry provides beauty, joy, comfort, inspiration and musical prayer for communal liturgies and various parish celebrations. This is possible due to the generous sharing of time and talent of diverse and committed members. If you can carry a tune or play an instrument and want to learn more, come and sing or play with us.
