Sacraments

Our Family Faith Program is for families with children in grades K to 7. Our program is designed to be a learning experience for both children and their parents. We recognize the calling and responsibility of parents as primary educators and role models to their children. SJR's program is here to assist parents in passing on our faith to their children.

The Catechism of the Catholic Church states that “education in the faith by parents should begin in the child’s earliest years. Family catechesis precedes, accompanies, and enriches other forms of instruction in the faith. Parents have the mission of teaching their children to pray and to discover their vocation as children of God.” (CCC 2226) We are here to partner with and support parents in this important role.

This year SJR will continue using A Family of Faith by Sophia Institute. Our focus this year will be "The Profession of Faith" - inviting our families to discover the beauty and meaning of the Apostles and Nicene Creeds. Families can create a year-long "Family Storybook." The family storybook encourages families to learn more about God's story and their family's place in it.

The goal of our Family Faith Formation is to offer as many opportunities for education and spiritual growth as possible. We think this model will accommodate a wider range of our families, your child's learning style, their interests, and capabilities. We feel it results in a greater understanding of faith for your child's using this learning model. To further support each families' busy schedule, we have designed our Family Faith Formation programs to be completed as a "summer intensive" program or as a "school-year" program.

Which program works best for your family?

School-year Family Faith Formation:

September through May, in-person and home-based lessons.

How this works:

Our families will attend one or two parent and child lessons each month. Each family will have one or two home-based lessons taught by parents
Two (2) lessons/month should be completed.
Sessions are Sunday from 10:15 - 11:15 or Monday from 6:30-7:30. Our Monday families can join us at 6 PM for dinner in the cafeteria.
In Oct., Dec., and March, the second session will be a family faith experience thru crafts, service, and food. We end our year in May with a Mass and lunch.
We highly encourage our families to attend weekly Mass to grow deeper in faith and continue to build their relationship with God as a family.

** 6th & 7th graders can attend Youth Ministry as an alternative to Family Formation

Program Fee (For Books & Materials)

$50 for 1 Child;

$75 for 2 Children;

$100 for 3 or more Children.

Summer Intensive Family Faith Formation:

How this works:

All materials will be available end of June.
Parents will have given a suggested schedule to follow.
Families will be required to attend a four family gatherings during the months of October, December, March, and May. These will be a family faith experience thru crafts, service, and food. You have the choice of Sunday from 10:15 - 11:15 or Monday from 6:30-7:30. Our Monday families can join us at 6 PM for dinner in the cafeteria.
We end our year in May with a Mass and lunch.
We highly encourage our families to attend weekly Mass to grow deeper in faith and continue to build their relationship with God as a family.
